We hope that by now most of you have received your January 2009 newsletter through the postal service. Thank you to the many of you who have already given to the current fundraising drive. This e-newsletter will be short. It is simply a reminder of the open house on Saturday, March 14. We hope you can all make it to this event. It will be hosted at the fire station from 2pm-6pm. The fire station is located at 1949 FM 1750. There will be hot dogs, drinks, and displays. There will also be firefighters and leadership team members for you to meet. Bring the whole family! News Updates:
·In the last couple of weeks, a 1993 Ford F-350 has been donated to the fire department by Ed Kirkman Properties in Abilene. This truck is at a local welder’s shop to be converted for use as a brush firefighting vehicle. The 2009 winter fire season has already taken its toll on the first line wildland equipment, with both brush trucks undergoing major repairs after mechanical failures in recent fires. This vehicle will assist in keeping the fleet active during the toughest of seasons.
·Potosi VFD has been sending crews to many recent fires. Potosi VFD apparatus and crews were sent to the recent fires in Callahan County between Eula and Clyde. A crew was also sent to Hawley in its recent fire, though equipment was not able to be sent in order to keep equipment near Potosi. Fire crews and equipment were also sent to assist in the recent Tuscola fire, which, if not contained, could have quickly spread into the community of Potosi.
