Potosi Fire Department e-Newsletter December Issue
Fall Newsletter Update
Thank you to the many Potosi residents and other Big Country supporters who joined the cause by donating through our Fall Newsletter. In all, over $17,000 has been raised, of which $8500 will be placed in a separate fund to begin the building process of our new fire station. If you haven't donated yet, there is still time. We are racing against the clock to fill a $20,000 budget shortfall for 2009 and could use your help. Currently, 10% of the community has responded to the letter. If another 10% responds, it will close the gap on our 2009 budget, which makes this a very obtainable goal. Feel free to share this newsletter with your neighbors, friends, and family!
Latest News
Fall 2008 has been very productive for the fire department, resulting in a safer community for your upcoming holiday season. As promised, a new EMS/Command vehicle has been obtained. This Ford Expedition has been placed in service and includes medical equipment for ems response and storage and communications equipment for large scale fire response. Pictures and more information are available at www.potosifiredepartment.com.
In addition to a new vehicle, an acre of land has been donated to Potosi VFD to begin the process of building a second station. While groundbreaking is still at least a year away, this one acre is proof positive of our efforts to provide a professional fire service to the community. One more acre needs to be purchased to meet codes and requirements. More information and updates of this project will be available on the website.
Volunteers
It was brought to my attention the other day that there is a great misconception as to who can join with Potosi VFD. An individual interested in joining with the fire department needs only to 18 years old and be willing to make it to weekly fire meetings. There is no age limit and no shifts or call requirements. Many believe that joining the fire department would take a lot of time and is only for those interested in active fire suppression activites. On the contrary, a few hours a week is all it takes, and there are many tasks to be completed that don't involve fire fighting. Driver/Pump Operators, EMS personnel, Mechanics, Accountants, and Fundraising Personnel are just a few of the tasks that the fire department takes on every day. For more information, check out the "How Can I Help" section of www.potosifiredepartment.com or contact us through the information on the website.
A final special thanks to the Wylie Weekly newspaper and Loretta Fulton for this very well written article about Potosi Volunteer Fire Department. Read it here.
